When it comes to steaming broccoli, you can cook it in two ways; by using steamer – the best method. The other is loading it in microwave oven. But if you don’t own a steamer, microwave will still do the work without compromising its flavor and nutritional benefits.
How to steam broccoli in the microwave is quick and easy. Here’s the basic preparation of steaming broccoli in the microwave, minus the hassle!
Directions:
1. Slice the vegetable in bite sized florets. It doesn’t necessarily have to be cut in equal sizes, but make sure that they are sliced into pieces that are small enough to bite. Discard any woody parts to evenly cook.
2. Rinse the vegetable under running cold water to remove any dirt.
3. Place all broccolis in a microwave safe bowl or casserole; add some water about 2 to 3 tablespoons for a single bunch of broccoli.Cover with a lid, preferably ceramic or stoneware plate.
4. Microwave on High setting for 3 to 4 minutes. This is enough to make your broccoli florets crispy and tender to bite. Broccoli is well-done if it is opaque and dark green in color.
5. When the timer sounds off, carefully remove the lid to stop the steaming process.
6. Serve
Tips on steaming broccoli:
- If you want some extra flavor to your veggie, you can add small amount of soy sauce or butter before you steam it.
- Sprinkle some salt and pepper to taste after the broccoli has been steamed.
