How to Cook Steak on the Grill?

Grilled steak is simply irresistible.  For the most us who do not know how to cook steak on the grill, we often go to the restaurant to have a steak bite.  Well, it doesn’t have to be that way all the time.

In contrast to our common notion that cooking steak does not taste as good as in expensive restaurant, the truth is, it can be yummy too! Besides that, grilling steak is not as complicated as we thought it would be.  The tricky part is the preparation process which includes choosing the cut of steak to grill.  The most common steak cuts are sirloin, strip, ribeye, filet, and T-bone.  Each of them has its plus points and downsides. Basically, your choice depends on your personal preference. Further, take into account the price of the steak, flavor and tenderness.

Moreover, the way in which you ready your steaks for grilling will make have bearing in their quality after they are grilled. So, better prepare the steaks ahead.  As much as possible, purchase the meat on the day you plan to grill them.  In case, it can’t be cook right away, freeze it as short as possible. To prevent any food born sickness, defrost the steaks in warm water or at room temperature.

The best thing to do is defrost the meat about one hour prior to grilling, then, cover with plastic wrap to guarantee that it is on room temperature.

The time for your steak to cook depends on its thickness.  The thinner the steak cut is, the lesser time it requires to grill.  The best thickness should be at least one inch.

When your meat is ready, you are now set to grill your very own steak.  Simply follow these steps:

Step 1: Season your steak cuts. For this recipe, use filet mignon.

Opt for black pepper so that the meat will retain its natural flavor. Set it aside for about 45 minutes.

Step 2: Choose where you will grill the meat, whether gas grill or charcoal grills. For gas grilling, preheat for about 20 minutes on high setting.

Step 3: Place the meat on the grill using tongs.  Leave the steak on the grill for approximately 2 minutes.  You can splash small amount of water when flare up occurs.  After the required time, flip the meat to the opposite side.  Wait for 5 minutes before flipping again, and then cool for another 2 minutes.

Step 4: Decide whether you want medium rare or medium steak.  To check its doneness, lightly pressed the meat, if it leaves a mark, it is medium cooked.  Oppositely, if it the meat is firm, it is well-done or medium rare.

Step 5: Remove the grilled steak gently.  Transfer on a plate, then, wait 2 minutes before eating it.
