Let’s begin with buying the right asparagus for microwave cooking.  Choose asparagus that has green stalks that are not dry looking.  You can purchase pencil thin stalks asparagus and thick asparagus depending on the season. It is sold by bunch which comprised about 14 to 18 spears of asparagus.

Shortly thereafter, wash the vegetable that you would cook under running water.  Asparagus cooks very fast in the microwave; hence, there is no reason to prepare for leftovers.

After washing, cut the 1/3 of the stalk starting from the bottom.  The stalk near the tip of the vegetable is softer, but, the bottom part is hard or tough.  Peel and cut blemishes, if any.

Directions:

1.    Place the cleaned, peeled and trimmed asparagus in a dish.
2.    Add a tablespoon of water, and sprinkle some salt.


3.    Cover the dish with plastic wrap, allow some vent in the corner so that steam will escape.  You may also use microwave-safe plate to cover the dish.
4.    Put the microwave on high setting and time for 2 to 4 minutes.  Place the dish inside.  If you want a very tender asparagus, adjust the time.  Do not overcook.
5.    Best serve when hot.  For a flavorful asparagus, pair it with sauce of your choice.
